The incumbent will also develop and use methods to quality control mRNA and lead the optimization of Vernal’s plasmid and mRNA processes through innovative research and development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize mRNA synthesis reactions

  • Develop and apply analytical methods to mRNA

  • Create and optimize plasmid and mRNA synthesis workflows

  • Maintain stock of critical reagents and supplies, and inventory of plasmids and mRNA

  • Become an essential part of Vernal’s origin story

Requirements and Desirable skills

  • Persistence, determination, client- and team-first mindset

  • Bachelor’s to Ph.D. degree in cell or molecular biology, biomedical or chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a related field

  • mRNA: synthesis and purification, working knowledge of mRNA biology (e.g. sequence, structure)

  • Molecular biology: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), qPCR, RT-PCR, molecular cloning (e.g. Golden Gate), gel electrophoresis, E. coli culture, plasmid purification, Fragment Analyzer

  • Cell biology: cell line and primary cell culture maintenance, expansion, banking; transfection optimization

  • Automation experience will be a differentiator

  • Optimization through design of experiments and statistical modeling (e.g. JMP)

  • Deep understanding and practical knowledge of the scientific method and selection of experimental controls

  • High attention to detail including planning, executing, and documenting experiments
