mRNA Research Associate to Senior Scientist
The mRNA Research Associate to Principal Scientist will develop methods to synthesize, purify, and scale up mRNA production. The incumbent will also develop and use methods to quality control mRNA and lead the optimization of Vernal’s plasmid and mRNA processes through innovative research and development.
Responsibilities
Develop and optimize mRNA synthesis reactions
Develop and apply analytical methods to mRNA
Create and optimize plasmid and mRNA synthesis workflows
Maintain stock of critical reagents and supplies, and inventory of plasmids and mRNA
Become an essential part of Vernal’s origin story
Requirements and Desirable skills
Persistence, determination, client- and team-first mindset
Bachelor’s to Ph.D. degree in cell or molecular biology, biomedical or chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a related field
mRNA: synthesis and purification, working knowledge of mRNA biology (e.g. sequence, structure)
Molecular biology: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), qPCR, RT-PCR, molecular cloning (e.g. Golden Gate), gel electrophoresis, E. coli culture, plasmid purification, Fragment Analyzer
Cell biology: cell line and primary cell culture maintenance, expansion, banking; transfection optimization
Automation experience will be a differentiator
Optimization through design of experiments and statistical modeling (e.g. JMP)
Deep understanding and practical knowledge of the scientific method and selection of experimental controls
High attention to detail including planning, executing, and documenting experiments
Communication skills including protocol writing, working directly with clients, Power Point
